The New Jersey State Chapter initiated the banquet season with an Awards Banquet to honor
the volunteers who put in so much time and effort in working for the wild turkey. This
special banquet is designed to give volunteers the opportunity to go home with some great
art work and collectible items without having to 'buy' them in a live or silent auction. Each chapter is honored for its achievements over the past year in a variety of categories. These include most memberships: Regular, WITO,Jakes, Wheelin' Sportsmen, and Sponsor, Highest Net-Net, Highest Gross, Highest Attendance, Most Improved and a number of others. Several awards are issued to the chapters to honor their achievements for the past year. Two special awards are issued in honor of special volunteers who have demonstrated outstanding service to the NWTF in New Jersey. We are still trying to schedule our Special Guest this year to assist us in presenting the awards to our local chapters. These calls would normally be seen only at the National NWTF Call Competitons and it is a great honor for the New Jersey Chapter to be able to offer them at our Awards Banquet.
| William E. Smith Award | |||
|
The William E. Smith
Award for Outstanding Volunteer of the Year is awarded in memory of Bill Smith, an outstanding
NWTF volunteer, chapter vice president and banquet chairman. The candidates for this award are
outstanding, active NWTF volunteers, nominated by their local chapters and voted on by the state board.
At our 2006 banquet, the New Jersey State Chapter proudly awarded THOMAS PLANTE 2005 VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR Tom is is the President of the Highlands Chapter and is the Treasurer for the State Chapter. Additionally, he serves as the Webmaster for the State Chapter. Tom tries to help out in any way he can and does the flyers for several chapters including those in the Regional Director's other states of Delaware and Maryland. Chances are, if you are reading a flyer about an NWTF Event, Tom had some part of it. |

| Robert Eriksen Award for Conservation | |||
|
The Robert Eriksen Award for Conservation is given in honor of
the work Bob Eriksen has done for the wild turkey here in New Jersey. Luckily for us (and for Bob)
he is still with us working for the wild turkey. However, he is no longer a volunteer but an employee of the NWTF.
The award is given to an outstanding volunteer that has worked in the field with biologists and
Fish & Game personnel to conserve the wild turkey here in New Jersey. There has been no one nominated for the Robert Eriksen Award in 2006.

These awards are detailed in the underlined links.
| Format | |||
|
The format of the State Banquet is a 'Chinese Auction'. With each $100 banquet ticket issued comes
a set of raffle tickets which are used to participate in the Chinese Auction. Additional tickets will be available at the
event for $100 per set. Participants place tickets in buckets placed in front of each auction item.
After dinner, the winning tickets are drawn, and the players get to win some great stuff. The complete NWTF Core package makes up the prizes in the Chinese Auction. It's a great opportunity to go gome with a special piece of art work with minimal investment. |
