Back in the summer of 1996 some avid turkey hunters from the Ringwood (Bergen/ Passaic County) area were
introduced to the NWTF and the work that they do to promote wild turkey conservation.
These guys hooked up with some other hunters from Morris County to become the Highlands Chapter.
At that time, there were no other chapters in the region, so we became the focus for the North
Jersey Area, with members from Morris, Sussex, Passaic, Bergen, Essex and Hudson Counties for
a start. In actuality, we had about ten active members in the chapter.
We elected a Board of Directors, President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Banquet Chairman. In the twelve years that we have been working with the NWTF, our board members have changed. We have lost a few members and gained others; we have helped other chapters get established and grow, but we still only have less than a dozen ACTIVE members in the chapter getting the work done. The fall of 1996 we held our first banquet at the Ringwood Fire House. Gerry Zimmerman was the Regional Director and our auctioneer. We had less than 100 guests, but we were successful and we were off. That was the first of our annual banquets. Our second banquet was at the Russian hall just a few months later in February, 1997. The hall is located just off Rt 23, a few blocks south of the shopping malls on Rt 46. We had more than 150 guests at that event. We outgrew the Russian Hall and moved our banquet to the Wayne Manor on Route 23 where we have had every banquet untilt they closed their doors. Our banquets are now held at the Knoll Country Club in Parsippany. Some of the accomplishents of the Highlands Chapter: |

The chapter is meetings are supposed to be held monthly. However, due to the small committee that we currently have, it has been difficult to meet on a regular basis.
We have just found a new location that is working well for us. We have been meeting at the North Jersey Gun Club on Horseneck Road in Fairfield, NJ. The trap range clubhouse is an ideal setting for our meetings and is centrally located to our area.
Please call or email one of our officers for our next meeting date and time.
DIRECTIONS
From the west: Take I-80 to Exit 48b Rt 46 East. At second traffic light bear right past Wendy's and take jug-handle to cross Rt 46 onto Hook Mtn Road. Take Hook Mtn Road to end. In order to serve you better and to make the evening more enjoyable for all, including the committee people running the event, we hope to receive your registrations early. In 2006, most of the 'registrations' arrived on Saturday - The event was on Sunday! In 2007, more than 50 guests registered at the door - Again causing delays for all who pre-registerd. Please get your registration in by March 10. It is only fair to the committee and to those who have prepaid to get this event started smoothly. We are limiting seating to 250 So Please Register Early to Guarantee Seating |

2007 Hunting Heritage Banquet The Highlands Chapter would like to thank all who attended our 2006 Super Fund Banquet and made it a success. Even though this was one of our most poorly attended events, those of you who came made a difference and helped us to have a great event. Our 2007 Hunting Heritage Banquet was quite successful. However, we still have a problem with too many guests registering at the door. We did not know how many guests we would have until registration was over. We had over 50 guest that we did not know were coming. Fortunately, the Knoll Country Club was able to provide us with seating and meals for these guests. Overall, everyone had a great time. The food was a little too elegant for some, and we have plans for changing the menu slightly. Registration was a major problem, but we hop to have that problem solved this year. Once everyon was seated, all seemed to have a great time. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT WE HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN THIS YEAR |
